WHY KNOT | 1983 C&C 40 Custom Pilothouse

Kingston, ON, CA

About

WHY KNOT is a C&C 40 Custom Pilothouse, built in 1983 at C&C Custom Yachts (Bruckmann) in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. C&C Yachts have always had a reputation of being durable, good quality racer/cruiser yachts and their custom-built yachts were second-to-none at the time. Her very knowledgeable original owner sat down with C&C and Bruckmann and they planned through the perfect yacht for his needs. They started with the hull from a C&C 40, arguably one of their best performing hulls, and modified it to have a more traditional cruising stern. The took the bow and cockpit sections from the Landfall 38 series and put a pilothouse, fashioned after the Landfall 48, over the salon. The result was a unique, stiff and fast cruiser with an amazing amount of living space for a very demanding cruising couple. The truly amazing thing is that she has only ever seen the freshwater of the Great Lakes.

She is comfortably appointed below decks with well over 6 feet of headroom, extremely generous lighting and wonderful ventilation. She boasts spacious accommodation for four. She has a beautiful cream-coloured FRP liner with an immaculate teak and holly sole, along with extremely high quality teak trim and cabinetry throughout. WHY KNOTs custom design has an upper salon with navigation station to starboard, with seating opposite and aft, and a lower salon with a full galley to port, and settee and table to starboard. Forward is the V-berth with a door for privacy, and enclosed head to starboard.

When you go aboard WHY KNOT, it will be difficult to believe that she is forty years old. The reasons are, of course, her high quality of design and build and the high degree of continuing attention that has been shown to her. WHY KNOTs previous owners spent thousands of dollars refitting her in the early 2000's. As you read through her specifications, be prepared to be truly amazed at the amount of upgrading that has recently taken place.WHY KNOT has also been repowered with a Volvo D2-55 diesel inboard that was installed in 2005.

She has been very well maintained with many upgrades, and has an extremely clean and bright appearance. She truly is a turnkey cruiser in every sense of the word and is ready to take her new owners anywhere they wish in style and comfort.

Testimonials

Thank you for all your work in facilitating the sale of our dad's boat. Jake and I really appreciate all the hard work you put into it with the many visits, paperwork, etc. A special mention has to go out to Grant for teaching me how to fold the sails!

As first-time boat buyers and as foreigners wanting to buy a cruising catamaran in the US, we knew we needed a reliable broker that had our best interests in mind. John Heintzman was just that, and more! He was extremely committed to understanding what we were looking for, gave great advice, and guided us through the purchase process with great patience and knowledge. All in all, we felt very well taken care of.

I feel compelled to reach out about the absolutely wonderful experience that I have had with Grant and Patricia Bowlby. I completed the purchase of a boat yesterday and I couldn’t be happier. They were so helpful, kind, and patient. This was my first experience with a broker, and I think I’ve found the best.

I can’t thank Ewan Campbell enough for the super job he did in selling G, making up for my lack of experience in this realm and patiently searching for just the right buyer and a win-win for seller and buyer alike.

It was a wonderful experience selling A with Jeff Cole’s expert assistance. Thank you for simplifying a complicated process. Your patience and kindness are especially appreciated.

I just wanted to thank Jeff Cole for all his hard work. He was very professional and effective.
