Snow Goose III | 1962 Hatteras 41 Convertible

Wiarton, ON, CA

About

When the first Hatteras 41 launched in 1960, it revolutionized the boating industry as the first large powerboat built from fiberglass. Designed for offshore fishing for four people, and fitted with an interior suitable for family cruising with a master stateroom, guest cabin, proper galley and comfortable lounging.

Snow Goose III is Hull #9 of these iconic boats.. Heavily built throughout, these hulls are literally bulletproof and this boat actually has the evidence. ( Ask about it ! )

Fitted with the original GM Detroit Diesel 6V-53 engines in good running order, and much of the original interior, this boat is a display of early 1960's luxury style. The hull is painted in period appropriate Sea Foam green Awlgrip, with complementary green canvas.

She is well equipped with updated electronics and well maintained. Both engines are in good working order. This boat has proudly been in the seller's family for over 50 years, having purchased it from the original owner in 1973. Used only seasonally in freshwater from new.

This boat is in the water and ready to go fishing or cruising, or simply as a spacious floating cottage.. She can easily handle rough water on the big lakes or open oceans in ways that newer boats simply can't do.

Layout and Accommodations

Design Brief

The original concept by the founder of Hatteras Yachts was for an incredibly strong boat that could accommodate a party of four fishers on the open ocean, while also doubling as a family cruiser with all the comforts of home. That design brief shows clearly in the layout of this boat, and the 14 foot beam makes it a large vessel with plenty of interior space.

Aft Cockpit

The spacious aft cockpit is of course perfectly suited for fishing for a party of four, or a social gathering of quite a few more. The updated teak decking provides both beauty and functionality. There are rod holders and places for your down riggers. A large swim platform is mounted on the transom, which has a dinghy mounting system installed.

Flybridge

Navigate the waterways or be on the lookout for your aquatic quarry with a full set of instruments and engine controls, including synchronizer. Updated VHF radio and GPS chart plotter match those down below.

A comfortable captain’s chair is paired with settees on each side. A bimini top that is like new provides shelter from the elements.

Salon

Entering the cabin from the aft door, we have a generous salon area, complete with tub chairs, very stylish from the era, and a low table that also reflects the interior design aesthetic of the early ’60s. A full helm station is is at the forward end of the salon, and a few steps down leads into the rest of the cabin.

The port side settee can be used as a single bunk, or cleverly converts into bunk beds for additional guests.

Galley

With a longitudinal galley we have a good sized vertical home style refrigerator with a good sized freezer compartment, lots of counter space and stowage cupboards, built-in microwave oven, a deep stainless steel sink and a 3-burner electric stove and oven.

Master Stateroom

The Master is full-width and of generous size and headroom, located forward of the galley. An opening overhead hatch and two opening portlights on each side provide plenty of light and ventilation. The twin bunks are arranged on each side forward, with a private toilet located discretely under the forward section. A washbasin and plenty of stowage including a full height hanging locker make this cabin a private and comfortable space.

Head

On the port side we have the private head, with marine toilet, sink and vanity. A separate shower stall keeps the head area dry.

Guest Cabin

A separate roomy guest cabin opposite the galley provides two single bunks, portlights for light and ventilation and stowage lockers. A “cheater door” provides direct access to the head compartment.

Testimonials

Thank you for all your work in facilitating the sale of our dad's boat. Jake and I really appreciate all the hard work you put into it with the many visits, paperwork, etc. A special mention has to go out to Grant for teaching me how to fold the sails!

As first-time boat buyers and as foreigners wanting to buy a cruising catamaran in the US, we knew we needed a reliable broker that had our best interests in mind. John Heintzman was just that, and more! He was extremely committed to understanding what we were looking for, gave great advice, and guided us through the purchase process with great patience and knowledge. All in all, we felt very well taken care of.

I feel compelled to reach out about the absolutely wonderful experience that I have had with Grant and Patricia Bowlby. I completed the purchase of a boat yesterday and I couldn’t be happier. They were so helpful, kind, and patient. This was my first experience with a broker, and I think I’ve found the best.

I can’t thank Ewan Campbell enough for the super job he did in selling G, making up for my lack of experience in this realm and patiently searching for just the right buyer and a win-win for seller and buyer alike.

It was a wonderful experience selling A with Jeff Cole’s expert assistance. Thank you for simplifying a complicated process. Your patience and kindness are especially appreciated.

I just wanted to thank Jeff Cole for all his hard work. He was very professional and effective.
